Your paper stays private.

PaperPaste recognizes text on your iPhone. It works locally by default; when you choose to connect a computer, only selected text is transferred with end-to-end encryption. Camera images are never uploaded.

Data we collect

We do not require an account and do not use advertising or analytics. We do not collect camera images or the plaintext you transfer. Our hosting providers necessarily process limited technical data such as IP addresses, timestamps, and traffic size to deliver the website and encrypted relay traffic.

Optional computer connection

The QR code creates a random, one-time session and shares its encryption key directly with your iPhone. Selected text is encrypted on the iPhone and decrypted only in the paired browser. The relay receives ciphertext and connection metadata, but never the encryption key or readable text. It forwards messages live, does not queue them while the browser is offline, and does not save them to a database or cloud history.

Browser memory and session lifetime

Received text and the optional recent-copies list exist only in the browser tab’s memory. Refreshing or closing the page clears them. Pairing sessions expire after a short period of inactivity, and disconnecting the browser ends the session.

Camera and text recognition

Camera frames are processed on your device for QR scanning and text recognition. They remain in temporary device memory and are not saved or uploaded. Only text you select is eligible to be copied to the iPhone clipboard.

Clipboard

When you confirm a value—or when Automatic mode completes a stable read—PaperPaste writes that text to the system clipboard so you can paste it into another app. Clipboard content can remain available to you and to apps you choose to paste into until it is replaced or cleared. PaperPaste does not read existing clipboard content.

Data stored on your device

Your Manual or Automatic mode preference is stored locally on your device. Pairing secrets are kept only in memory and are not saved by the app. Deleting the app removes its local preference. The relay has no stored clipboard history to retrieve or delete.

Your choices and contact

You can deny or revoke Camera access in iOS Settings, although scanning will not work. You can replace clipboard content by copying something else. For privacy questions or deletion inquiries, email tomczyk006@gmail.com.
